The Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) project needed a system for sharing information to citizens about the project and its progress. The management also wanted to explore the advantages and disadvantages of open source software in a project supported by EU.
The project team chose CMS Made Simple software for implementing the system. The product is available under GNU/GPL-license. CMS Made Simple doesn't require extensive server resources. Custom modules were easy to create, for instance, for event registration.
When the system was implemented and thoroughly tested, it was installed to the production server built on VMWare virtual server software. The virtual server made the installation and configuration of the production system easy, because the system could access all server resources.
