Case study: SAMK Time reporting database
EU Project Budget Required Prompt Reporting
The Satakunta University of Applied Sciences Technology Pori unit is one of the biggest Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland. The Universtiy needed an easy-to-use solution for researchers where they could enter their work hours. The system had to generate a variety of print documents for the European Union. The researchers also wanted to track their own workflow from the data collected into the system.
Jaakko Suutarla had created the original reporting system as a student. Later, BF Engineering had invested in the creation of an open source software development framework, which was built in PHP. The new framework was used to develop the new reporting system for the Satakunta University.
The reporting system for researchers was developed in PHP. MySQL was chosen as the database. The framework was a key element for the successful project. It made both the maintenance and integration of new features easy, since all the program code was logically organized.
